Art competition quality means that the artwork is a step above basic quality. It is stuff that stands out for its beauty. The more unique and extreme, the more everyone will feel it is worthy of winning that competition. What you may not realize is that anyone can make simple art projects at home. You don’t have to be a professional to have competition quality resin art.
What Is Resin Art?
Resin art is the practice of using epoxy resin in artwork. With it, you can create art that is clear and luminous, as well as artwork that has depth. It is done by taking clear epoxy resin and adding in colored pigments or other types of colorants. For instance, you can use watercolor paints, acrylic paints, oil paints, ink, alcohol ink, glitter, and virtually any other thing you can imagine. There are even people who have used chalk, herbs, spices, etc. to color epoxy and add texture to their finished artwork.
How Do Artists Use Epoxy Resin?
Resin art can be applied to a variety of surfaces. Some artists prefer to use a canvas for their creations, some use wood, and others use stainless steel tumblers. There are also some artists that prefer to create custom sculpture, paperweights, coasters, and more using resin casting molds. There are molds available that allow you to create cute Valentine hearts, pyramids that you can fill with dried flowers or other tiny trinkets, and so much more. Even people who spend their days creating with epoxy can still find new ideas to try.
It is this that is perhaps what draws us to push the limits to see what more we can do with epoxy resin. Can you imagine turning a slab of wood into a river table that is filled with blue water, river rocks, shells, or other things? How about adding photographs to your favorite work desk or coffee table? Creating a picture using only epoxy swirled from a bucket to create abstract art? All that you can imagine can be done using epoxy and a little practice. Epoxy artists do it and you can as well.
Where to Start?
With so many potential crafts you can enjoy with resin, the hardest part is often trying to decide what you want to do. You may choose to start out with a flat wood surface to figure out how epoxy works. You may dive right into creating tumblers. Each of these projects will require some supplies.
The most basic is some epoxy, a way to measure it so that you get equal parts of hardener and resin, a stirring stick, and an idea. The rest, you can work up to once you get going with it. No matter what you begin with, we feel that everyone can create competition worthy resin artwork. You can as well.
